Renovation & reopening

Giovanni Segantini as guest of honour in the "Forum Paracelsus", Plazza Paracelsus 10, 7500 St. Moritz, from 6 April to 20 October 2019.

The Segantini Museum will close on 10 March 2019 for renovation and extension work and reopen its doors in new splendor on 20 December. Fortunately, the visitors interested in Segantini will nevertheless have the opportunity to see and admire the works of the great Symbolist in St. Moritz.

The Municipality has provided the Giovanni Segantini Foundation with an exhibition space, whose history and special atmosphere offer Segantini's visual world a harmonious "hostel": the "Forum Paracelsus" in St. Moritz Bad.

In the historic drinking hall dating from 1866, which was successfully restored in 2014, you can admire a documentation of the St. Moritz drinking and bathing culture as well as the more than 3400-year-old Mauritius Spring capture, the oldest and best preserved wooden structure in Europe.

Giovanni Segantini once wrote: "I love the sun the most, after the sun the Spring, then the sources that gush crystal clear from the rocks in the Alps [...]". Thus, the first Segantini show in the "Forum Paracelsus" (6 April - 15 September 2019) is dedicated to the central theme of water sources and spring water for the artist - in keeping with the exhibition location.

In this context, paintings such as "Evening at the fountain" (1882-83), "Ave Maria at the transit" (1886), "The bath of the child" (1886-87), "The water carrier" (1886-87), "Grisons woman at the fountain" (1887), "Brown cow at the fountain" (1892) and others receive a prominent place in the exhibition.

Other masterpieces such as "Return from the Forest" (1890), "Noon in the Alps" (1891) and "The Hay Harvest" (1889-98) will also be on display.

A second show (September 21 - October 20, 2019) entitled "From Dark to Light" features very rarely exhibited drawings by the artist as well as a selection of still lifes and portraits that demonstrate Segantini's mastery of these genres.
